Portraits For My Parents, Portraits For My Boyfriend
This series of diptychs represent a collaborative project with the girls from the same "Virgin Club" titled "For My Parents, For My Boyfriend". After being asked by one of the girls to make a portrait of her for her boyfriend (as a Christmas gift) and a separate portrait for her parents, I began to form the guidelines for a new photo project with the girls. I asked each girl to pick what she would wear for each portrait, where she wanted the photograph taken, how she would pose, etc. I was clear that one portrait could be used to represent both the parent and boyfriend portrait, however, each girl photographed, chose two separate images. It became interesting for me to see how each girl wanted to present themselves to please each anticipated audience. These photographs were taken in Knoxville, Tennessee 2002-2003.
